ANTI-BULLYING TIPS

ANTI-BULLYING TIPS

Firstly I would like to thank everyone who participated in last weeks training at IMC Engadine.

And a reminder to all our students, Bullying will not be tolerated at IMC.

In relation to our ANTI-BULLY WEEK we held in class at IMC Engadine, I would love to reiterate what we went through!

TIPS WHEN SOME ONE IS BEING A BULLY

Step 1 - Tell them: "STOP! I don't like it" Sometimes our peers may not realise that what they are saying or doing is hurtful, and this may be all it takes to get them to stop.

Step 2 - Ignore/Walk Away: If Step 1 is not enough to deter them, try moving away and finding a safe space, group of friends to surround yourself with from now on.

Step 3 - Tell a responsible adult: This is very important, if the bully continues this poor behaviour we must seek help. Remember, you are not alone and find a Parent or Teacher that you trust and let them know what is going on.

Step 4 - Detain or Defend: If the bullying does not stop, and it progresses to a stage where they are trying to physically harm you be ready to defend yourself. This does not mean we beat them up, as satisfying as that urge may feel at the time it will only make things worse and get us into trouble. Use the Martial Arts you have learned to either hold them down, or block and respond appropriately in order to keep yourself safe. Then once you have successfully got away, seek help from a trusted adult.

CYBER BULLYING

Do not accept anyone online that you do not know personally!

STEP 1 - Screenshot & tell an adult about what has happened.

STEP 2 - Report to the platform, most social media sites have a button where you can report inappropriate/mean things

STEP 3 - BLOCK/Remove Friend

WHAT TO DO IF YOU SEE SOMEONE BEING BULLIED

If the bullying is verbal

STEP 1 - IGNORE the bully. Go over to the victim and ask if they would like to go play somewhere else, maybe offer to play handball or eat lunch in a different area!

STEP 2 - If this does not deter the bully, seek help from a trusted adult.

If it is physical:

Do not get involved, immediately go and find help!

Please remember there is no reason to feel embarrassed if you are a victim of bullying. It is brave to speak up and seek help. YOU ARE NOT ALONE

If you do not have a trusted adult you are comfortable talking to there are so many resources to help you get through it.
