MAGGIE MCPHERSON
3rd Dan Black Belt | World Pankration Champion | Instructor
Maggie McPherson’s martial arts journey began in 2004. Over more than two decades, she has become an accomplished competitor, senior instructor and role model, earning black belt ranks across multiple disciplines and representing IMC in competition.
Maggie joined IMC Kemps Creek in 2010, working part-time while continuing her training. She moved into a full-time role at IMC Liverpool in January 2012. In November 2019, Maggie and Mark opened IMC Engadine, bringing their experience and passion for martial arts to the local community.
Among Maggie’s standout achievements is winning gold at the 2016 World Championship Pankration Athlima in Rome. She competed in the women’s 59–65 kg division while weighing just 49 kg—a remarkable result against significantly larger opponents. Earlier, as a teenager, she won three gold medals and one silver at the World Martial Arts Games, competing with a broken wrist.
As an instructor, Maggie combines deep martial arts knowledge with patience, clear communication, high standards and genuine care for her students. She knows when to encourage and when to challenge, helping students of different ages and abilities feel welcome while reaching their potential. Maggie leads by example, showing that progress comes through consistency, respect, humility and resilience. Her students learn more than techniques: they see a role model who continues to train, grow and meet challenges with determination.
